I thought I'd be further along than this, but I can't complain too much about it. I've laid off exercising for a damn long time probably beginning of June.
I decided to go with Yoga workouts along with ab ball crunches and leg raises instead of trying to move the weight bench inside. Now I love ignoring the measurements and results for twelve-week periods, but I think it's too long for exercising. I'm getting bored too soon. So I'm going to do this workout for a month before moving to something else.
No pictures today. I have a lot of household chores and other things to do before I can play with the camera. Maybe next week.

Iron Experiment Redux 19 and End of 48 Weeks Measurements
I’m fairly proud of my workouts, nineteen of them in twelve weeks. There is noticeable muscle increase on my arms, legs, and butt. My massage therapist felt it on my abs, but it’s not a visible change yet.
Workout weights
Squat = 30 lbs.
Bench press = 30 lbs.
Biceps curl = 30 lbs.
Shoulder press = 25 lbs.
Dumbbell rows = 25 lbs.
Breaststroke level 1 = bodyweight x 50 reps
Crunches = bodyweight x 40 reps
The plan for the next twelve weeks is to measure my max reps for the lifts, and adjust my workout and warm-up weights for it. Some days, it feels I’m lifting as much as I can, other days, it’s too easy. If I plug those numbers into an interval training calculator, I have guaranteed pushing my body harder.
My goal is to reach Iron Experiment Redux 55 by August 10th, the end of the next twelve weeks.
However, stress eating plus muscle building negated the decreases of the last twelve weeks. I know I have overindulged the sweet tooth.
Week 48 = 191.6
Week 47 = 189.1
Week 46 = 188.9
Week 45 = 186.2
Week 44 = 185.7
Week 43 = 187.5
Week 42 = 186.1
Week 41 = 184.2
Week 40 = 181.7
Week 39 = 181.6
Week 38 = 181.2
Week 37 = 180.7
Week 36 = 179.3
Week 24 = 188
Week 12 = 187.6

Starting BMI Measurements
Height is 62.25 inches/158.1 cm.
Weight is 194.5 pounds/88.4 kg.
Body Mass Index is 35.3 kg/m2.
According to Better Ideal Weight Body Calculators, I should be:
between 105 - 138 pounds/47 - 62 kg
with a BMI between 19 and 25.
I want to weigh 120 lb/54.4 kg with a BMI of 20 kg/m2.
End of 12 Weeks BMI Measurements
Height is 62.25 inches/158.1 cm.
Weight is 187.6 pounds/85.1 kg.
Body Mass Index is 34 kg/m2.
End of 24 Weeks BMI Measurements
Height is 62.25 inches/158.1 cm.
Weight is 188 lb/85.3 kg
Body Mass Index is 34.1 kg/m2.
End of 36 Weeks BMI Measurements
Height is 62.25 inches/158.1 cm.
Weight is 179.3 lb/81.3 kg
Body Mass Index is 32.5 kg/m2.
End of 48 Weeks BMI Measurements
Height is 62.25 inches/158.1 cm.
Weight is 191.6 lb/86.9 kg.
Body Mass Index is 34.8 kg/m2.
How far to go:
Weight: 191.6 - 120 = 71.6 lb/32.5 kg
BMI: 34.8 - 20 = 14.8 kg/m2.

The only areas of increases I’m concerned about are the bust, waist, and hips. Since I don’t see muscle definition, it must be more fat.
Easy enough to remedy, I hope. For the next twelve week period, I’m back on the South Beach Diet meal plans. I’m out of school, so no more too carb-y and too processed meals at the student union. It’s cheaper on the budget to pack food to work and SBD meal plans have snacks built into them, so no I’m starving runs to the vending machines.
The only drawback currently possible is suppers at my mother’s. It’s a food budget stopgap measure for me, but sweets and breads are always readily available and my willpower is typically spent by the time I get home. Maybe if I show her my weight chart. Never underestimate the power of visual aids.
Also to hold myself accountable, I’ll be using the food tracking feature at FitDay. Portion control will be aided by going back on phentermine once I pick up the prescription from the pharmacy. Get my sleep schedule straight and I should start losing weight again.
Comparison pictures will be added once I get the lighting fixed in my bedroom.

Iron Experiment Redux: Beginning Another 12 Weeks
It's the end of another twelve weeks, so I have covered thirty-six weeks total of weight loss. So I restarted Iron Experiment for twelve weeks twice-a-week workouts. This is a great time since I have to take measurements. I can see actual progress.

FitTogether online went away, so I plug all my numbers into Excel and made graphs. *Silly grin* Okay, it's unnecessary but I get a thrill seeing the lines move down. I printed them out and hung them on my fridge.

Picture comparison time. And while I think that Pasta Queen's overlays to show progress is the coolest shit ever, I am unable to make it work for three twelve week periods. The last time my current head fit on my first picture's shoulder when the feet are lined up correctly. And I'm unwilling to mark my floor or buy a tripod or run down someone else every time to take the picture. But now you can see progress. :D

I'm shrinking! I'm actually shrinking! *Happy dance*
Like I said at the beginning of this super-long blog post (I have other things to do today I must finish), I found a new weightlifting for women blog All-round Strength Training by gubernatrix and redesigned my Iron Experiment workouts. Hence the Iron Experiment Redux.
So according to her advice, I have created goals for my weightlifting. End goal for Squat is 179 pounds, Deadlift is 179 pounds, and Bench press with 89.5 pounds or at least the closest my weight set will let me get. The exercises I'm going to concentrate on for this twelve week are the squat, bench press, dumbbell row, shoulder press, backstroke level 1, crunches, and bicep curls. Now what I messed with last time around, I would have done all of them three times a week. Gubernatrix pointed out a better way is to make sure the routine has a push exercise, a pull exercise, bent-knee exercise, and core exercise. So I have divided the seven exercises into two sessions. I have also gone with the 5 sets of 5 reps, include a warm-up set and the rest working sets, and start everything out with just the weight of the bare bars and will build up to larger weights.
The weekly schedule I have come up with:
Sunday - weightlifting Session A
Monday - rest - walk track at gym
Tuesday - yoga
Wednesday - weightlifting Session B
Thursday - rest
Friday - Yogilates Workout 1 - walk track at gym
Saturday - Yogilates Workout 2
I think this is a doable workout schedule (providing I wake up on time), and I can drop walking the track if its too much. Warm-up set will be the last amount of weight I was able to do comfortably. I'll add weight in five pounds increments as I need to move up.
And I started today. And the routine takes about 30 minutes, same as the yoga and yogilates workouts.

Iron Experiment: End of 24 Weeks
Despite slacking off for the last few weeks, I have made it to the end of 24 weeks since starting the weight loss quest. So it's time to tally the progress and see what I need to do in the next 12 weeks.
Week 24 = 188
Week 23 = 186.7
Week 22 = 187.4
Week 21 = 186.9
Week 20 = 186.2
Week 19 = 186.4
Week 18 = 186.3
Week 17 = 186.5
Week 16 = 187.2
Week 15 = 188.6
Week 14 = 188.8
Week 13 = 189
Week 12 = 187.6
Week 11 = 187.8
Week 10 = 189.6
Week 9 = 188.9
Week 8 = 193.4
Week 7 = 194.5
Week 6 = 194.5
Week 5 = 195.5
Week 2 = 199
Week 1 = 205
So I have lost a total of 17 pounds over 24 weeks.
Starting set of tape measurements
height: 62.25 in/158.1 cm
weight: 194.5 lb/88.2 kg
neck: 37.5 cm
bust: 119.2 cm
waist: 102.2 cm
hips: 118.3 cm
thigh: 55.1 cm
calf: 40.6 cm
upper arm: 30.3 cm
lower arm: 25 cm
End of 12 Weeks Measurements
height: 62.25 in/158.1 cm
weight: 187.6 lb/85.1 kg
neck: 37.5 cm
bust: 115.1 cm
waist: 102.3 cm
hips: 118.5 cm
thigh: 63.2 cm
calf: 40.5 cm
upper arm: 32.1 cm
lower arm: 26 cm
End of 24 Weeks Measurements
height: 62.25 in/158.1 cm
weight: 188 lb/85.3 kg
neck: 37.5 cm
bust: 115.4 cm
waist: 102.5 cm
hips: 117.2 cm
thigh: 63.6 cm
calf: 40.3 cm
upper arm: 30.5 cm
lower arm: 26.2 cm
How far to go:
Weight: 188 - 120 = 68 lb/30.84 kg
BMI: 34.1 - 20 = 14.1 kg/m2.
Picture comparison time.

Now the first two Biggest Loser poses I did were on August 11 weighing 193 lbs. during Week 8.

There is only a five pound difference between the two sets. The short change is because the spandex died in the bike shorts after the 12 week progress pictures. But just a five pound difference and minuscule measurement changes didn't cause any dramatic weight loss could be seen by overlaying the pictures.
So what improvements do I see for the next twelve weeks?

- Getting back into my routine of medicine taking. I got off-schedule a bit with the holiday week and the week after.
- Starting South Beach Diet on Monday. I've gone over my reasoning why South Beach Diet. I just hope my supplies bought pre-Thanksgiving trip are still good because I can't buy groceries until the weekend coming up.
- Restart the exercise routines even though I can't use my max weights.

Iron Experiment: End of 12 Weeks
Technically, it has only been six weeks on the Iron Experiment but I decided to track the weight loss weeks starting on June 17, 2007. So my measurements reflect only 6 weeks of progress, but the third set will be a full 12 weeks.

Iron Experiment Intro
Since I stick to things better when I admit to them, blog entries. I'm resisting the urge to create a new blog I won't update, so it's just a category in Blank for now. Why Iron Experiment? Because I'm going to use free weights for the first time. Pumping iron, get it?
Today is go to gym and figure out max reps I can do on the weight lifting exercises, and go to yoga class if it's still scheduled. It's been forever since I was able to go.
Next workout day is Thursday--as long as the gym is open. It's not a complete given; the library is open but not when I can use it. If they do keep decent hours, I need to get my class schedule and plan my weekly workout schedule, so I will be used to it when classes start.
If they don't have decent hours, I guess I will be setting up the home gym earlier than anticipated. Good thing I just printed out the article on weightless weight training.
Goals: Boy, do I have some. Overall, it's a commitment to healthy living and that includes exercising. But that doesn't mean I don't have any expectations to measure against.
Current height is 62.25 inches/158.1 cm.
Current weight is 194.5 pounds/88.4 kg.
Current Body Mass Index is 35.3 kg/m2 .
According to Better Ideal Weight Body Calculators, I should be:
between 105 - 138 pounds/47 - 62 kg
with a BMI between 19 and 25.
I want to be a size four again. I want to be Angeline Jolie playing Lara Croft only my boobs will be real. I want to have a flat-ish stomach for the first time in my life, even if you can't see a six-pack on it. I'd love to be 120 pounds and have a BMI of 20.
I'd be happy losing a pound a week and 5 cm in the measuring spots. And I don't care how long it takes.

Before Iron Experiment

I'm sorry to say, but this is the most recent picture of me from beginning of April this year. My nephew Atticus surrounded by his adoring aunts. His mother took the picture. I'm the fat one in green and the white turban, playing Agnes Bailey.
